Here are some news highlights from 2011

Two members presented with hononary memberships

James Hosea and Patricia Schreuder, both founding members of the Society, have been granted status as honorary members. At the Autumn Ceilidh, James was presented with a framed tartan as a token of appreciation for the many ways in which he has served the Society from its beginnings in 2005. Pat received her framed tartan at the 2012 Burns Supper, at Fløien Folkerestaurant.

In the wake of Norway's terror attack in Oslo, Thomas de Ridder, the pipe major of the Bergen Pipes & Drums, was interviewed by BBC Radio Scotland Morning Briefing programme.

Society's new banner launched!

The Bergen Scottish Society was very visible in this year's May 17th parade in Bergen, thanks to the new, hand-made banner. The base material is our very own Bergen Scottish Society tartan, and the letters ironed and then sewn on are the Celtic font style.
Thanks to Jim and Barbara for their hard work. And to Jim for carrying the banner for the entire length of the parade!

New committee members elected. The end of an era.

Five committee members stepped down at this year's Annual General Meeting (AGM). James Hosea has been Chairman of the committee since 2005, when he played a key role in the founding of the Society. Patricia Schreuder, Social Secretary, has also served since the Society's inception. These two were given special mention, and deservedly so, at the AGM.

Burns Supper, Norwegian style!

The Society's Burns Supper incorporated a musical Immortal Memory tribute to Robert Burns, with lyrics translated to nynorsk and music provided by Annlaug Børsheim and Olav Tveitane, otherwise known as Tam Glen. What a treat!
