Bergen Scottish Society

2013

Here are some news highlights from 2013

Honorary Membership
Bergen, 19 October 2013

Snare drummer Willie Dawson was very surprised and deeply touched by the bestowment of an honorary membership in the Bergen Scottish Society, presented at the Society's Autumn Ceilidh.  Willie was a grateful and well deserving recipient, standing patiently while the reasons for this honour was listed by the current chairperson.  A framed Bergen Scottish Society tartan piece was presented as a token of the Society's appreciation for all Willie has done for both the Society and the Pipe Band.

Local heroes to the World Championships in Bagpiping
Bergen, 17 August 2013

A wonderful article in support of Bergen Pipes & Drums participation in the World Championships held in Glasgow was a boost to the band when seen online.  As the first Norwegian pipeband to compete at this international event, it must be noted the organizers had to buy Norwegian flags for display around Glasgow Green.  Something to be proud of!

The band ranked 20th of 22 bands in Heat 2 of the Grade 4B qualifying rounds on Sunday August 18th.  Constructive feedback was provided by the two judges and some fantastic official photos were taken.

Til VM i sekkepiping
Bergen, 13 April 2013

Bergens Avisen newspaper featured an article featuring the Society's latest Dance Workshop held at Nordnes Bydelshus. Short of joining in the fun themselves, the journalist and photographer stayed quite a while, speaking to all participants. An interpretation of their words are featured as well as fantastic photos and comments from the piper and drummer who were on hand from Bergen Pipes & Drums to welcome the workshop participants.
